ATEX-rated CCTV equipment installed in a cleaning materials manufacturing facility.
A range of fisheye lenses, turret and bullet cameras from Dahua Technology – some of which are ATEX-certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres – have been installed at a vehicle cleaning materials manufacturing and warehousing facility in Staffordshire.

The installation by West Midlands-based Richards CCTV at the Autosmart International facility includes ATEX-certified intrinsically safe cameras, to provide surveillance and monitoring in areas where the manufacturing and storage of volatile cleaning chemicals takes place. Dahua explosion-proof cameras are designed to inhibit any sparks or heat which may occur through normal camera operation, using features such as explosion-proof enclosures.
Cameras are installed in the warehousing and manufacturing sections to provide security and health and safety monitoring. 360-degree fish-eye cameras are able to cover large areas with relatively few cameras.
These come into their own in the storage areas, which feature high storage racks and narrow aisles where high-reach fork lift trucks are used to load and unload Intermediate Bulk Containers (ICBs) containing the volatile chemicals.
Outside, pole-mounted cameras are situated around the perimeter of the site and at entrances, exits and car park areas to provide security and deter intruders.
Also supplied and installed is a Dahua 64-channel Network Video Recorder to support the large number of cameras on one platform, and Power over Ethernet switches to provide power to the cameras, without the need for local 240v supplies at each camera.

The sales team at Richards CCTV recommended Dahua to Autosmart because of the close relationship between Dahua and Richards CCTV, the fact that he found their products to be very reliable and cost-effective, the advantages of features such as built-in AI and ease of operation for the end-user, and the wide range of products available – without needing to have to provide a third-party option.
“The client stipulated that any equipment installed in the potentially explosive areas had to be ATEX-rated, so creating cable routes and the mounting of the cameras had to be done to a high standard and to very strict regulations,” said a spokesperson for Richards CCTV. “Another challenge of the project which we successfully met was the difficulty of access by the installation team, as the manufacturing unit was undergoing refurbishment so that it could be linked to a new purpose-built warehouse facility.”
In addition to the ease of use of the software, the event search facility dramatically cuts down the time needed for searching for incidents, while AI functionality enables automatic monitoring and surveillance of sensitive areas without the need for human intervention.
